Melbourne, June 18 : American comedian Joan Rivers has apologised for using the F-word on actor Russell Crowe during a live British TV show.

The 75-year-old talk show host, was discussing Russell Crowe on the reality show Loose Women when she swore, expecting that her language would be edited.

On being asked about challenges of interviewing celebrities on red carpet, she said "Get ready to bleep this," before using the offending words for the Gladiator star, but the show didn't bleep it.

"We do apologize for that. Joan didn't realize that we were absolutely live," the Daily Telegraph quoted the 'Loose Women' host as saying on camera.

In a statement issued by Rivers, she said "Yes, I swore, and I'm so f------ sorry."

However Rivers' coarse language has got her booted off the show.

"No one told me the TV show Loose Women was a reality show and that I would be voted off," she said later in her statement.

"It's funny: offstage, I hardly ever use profanity. My favourite four-letter word is 'shop,'" she added.
