Jaipur, Jun 18 (UNI) The Gujjar Reservation Action Committee today called off its 27-day old agitation over the ST status demand following signing of an accord between agitating Gujjar leaders and the Rajasthan Government which grants them reservation under special category.
The settlement, which was reached at last night after five-round bilateral talks between the Gujjar and state government delegations, was formalised and announced here today.
Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Gujjar Reservation Action Committee Convener Col(retd) Kirodi Singh Bainsla, ruling BJP MP and Government Delegation Leader Ramdas Agrawal, BJP state President Om Prakash Mathur and several leaders from both sides were present.
This paved the way for lifting of dharnas at certain places, including Pillukapura-Karwadi near Bayana in Bharatpur district.
Col Bainsla himself was leading dharna at Pillukapura-Karwadi since May 23.
He announced that the agitation will be called off as soon as he(Col Bainsla) reached Pillukapura. Later he left for Pillukapura near Bayana.
The fierce agitation claimed 38 lives in police firings at Pillukapura, Sikandara Dausa and Kushalipura in Sawai Madhopur.
