Itanagar, Jun 18 (UNI) Stating that no development was possible without peace, Arunachal Pradesh PWD and Urban Development Minister Nabam Tuki today exhorted the people to follow the path of non-violence as advocated by Lord Buddha for peace and prosperity. Speaking at the closing day of the month-long 2552nd Buddha Jayanti celebration at Siddhartha Hall here this morning, the minister said that religious preaching which was good for the society and should be accepted by all irrespective of religion which they follow.
He also stressed on the need of spiritual development which he said was the essence of life and would help overcome many strains. ''Spiritual development should go hand in hand with socio-economic development which will help to build self confidence among people,'' he pointed out and advocated that Buddha's teachings should be incorporated in school syllabus especially in the primary level which would help in mental growth of the students.
Delivering a speech on 'relevant of Buddha's teaching today', Ven. Panya Rakkhita of Mahabuddhi Society Theraveda Centre (MSTC), Tawang, called for introspection of Buddha's teachings which, he said was essential in the context of present day scenario.
Buddha's preaching is eternal and like a medicine without expiry date, he said adding, his teachings could be practiced by anybody under any circumstances.
Ven. Anuruddho from Chongkham in Lohit district also delivered a speech on 'teachings of Buddha on universal level.
The month long celebration was marked with releasing of over 3000 fish at river Dikrong, besides floating of over thousand candles (wisdom light) in water and distribution of fruits among patients at various hospitals in the capital complex.
