Shimoga, Karnataka, June 18 (UNI) Fulfilling the long-standing dream of providing air connectivity to the Malnad region in Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will lay the foundation stone for the airport at Sogane village, about 10 km from here, on June 20.
According to sources, the airport would be constructed in a joint venture by the Government, M/s Methois Infra Ltd and N C C Infra Holding Ltd. under BOOT basis.
The aerodrome would be constructed in about 650 acres of land and completed by 2010 at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore.
The land acquisition process was completed in April, with the acquisition of 662.38 acres of land. Of these, 135 acres belonged to private owners and more than 300 acres belonged to 'Bagar Hokum' cultivators. About Rs 20.13 crore had been given as compensation.
'Bagur Hukkum' farmers had been given Rs two lakh each as compensation.
