AFI reveals 10 Greatest Movies in 10 Classic Genres
Washington, June 18 : The Wizard Of Oz, The Godfather and Lawrence Of Arabia are some of the films that have landed top spots in the American Film Institute's list of 10 Greatest Movies in 10 Classic Genres.
The genres defined by AFI are Animation, Romantic Comedies, Western, Sports, Mystery, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Gangster, Courtroom Drama and Epic, reports afi.com.
The winners included "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" for animation; "The Wizard of Oz," for fantasy; "2001: A Space Odyssey," with HAL the demented computer, for science fiction; "City Lights" for romantic comedy; and Marlon Brando's "The Godfather" for gangster flicks.
1956 film "The Searchers" was named the top movie in the Western genre, while Robert De Niro starrer "Raging Bull" emerged number one in the Sports category.
"To Kill a Mockingbird," starring Gregory Peck, was the winner in the Courtroom Drama genre, "Lawrence of Arabia" in the Epic category and "Vertigo" in the Mystery genre.
