New Delhi, June 17 (ANI/Business Wire India): The Government of Uttarakhand is partnering with the New Delhi-based research institute and policy thinktank, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), in organising a major state-level event 'Uttarakhand Sustainable Development Summit' in Dehradun on June 19. The keynote speaker at the summit will be Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Director-General of TERI and Chair of Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The summit will be inaugurated by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Major General (Retd.) B. C. Khanduri.

The prime objective of the summit is to mainstream sustainability concerns into the development path of the resource-rich and economically resurgent state.

In line with international concerns on the vulnerability of mountainous ecosystems to Climate Change, the summit will focus specifically on the linkages of key natural resources sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, forestry, water and energy with threats and challenges associated with climate change.

The deliberations at the summit are expected to considerably raise awareness on these issues among a diverse range of stakeholders, and eventually lead to incorporation of these into the development strategy of the state.

Over 150 government officials, NGOs, academics, corporates and multilaterals are expected to attend the two-day event.
