Pondy CM, MLAs to press statehood with PM, Sonia
Puducherry, Jun 17 (UNI) Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said there was a consensus on the issue of statehood for Puducherry and arrangements were being made to take the Legislators to New Delhi to press Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the issue, as announced on the floor of the Assembly.
Talking to newspersons, after a meeting with Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh, along with his Cabinet colleagues V Vaithilingam and E Valsaraj, Rangasamy said they had discussed administrative matters. Mr Singh had adviced to set up the SEZ here at the earliest and also discussed about the Government Medical College. There would be no financial constraints for setting up the medical college in the Government sector, he added.
He said the report of the expert committee in the port project was yet to be received and it would be finalised once the report was submitted.
