MMMA suspends trading in dry fruits
Mumbai, Jun 17 (UNI) The wholesale and retail trade in dry fruits was uspended today following a ''bandh'' called by the Mandvi Mewa Masala Merchants' Association (MMMA).
Speaking to UNI, the Association Secretary Raichand Dedhia said the ''bandh'' is to protest the frequent demands of the Akhil Bhartiya Mathadi Transport&General Kamgar Union.
According to Mr Dedhia, one of the workers, who has been employed since last 18 years, was sacked and all his dues were cleared.
However, the new Union was demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the worker, he said. The Union has also threatened to close down the wholesale market and harass the traders if they do not agree to their demands, Mr Dedhia alleged.
The Association will also go on a one-day token strike tomorrow to protest the Union's demand.
