Shillong, June 17 (UNI) The Meghalaya government is considering setting up a separate university for English and other foreign languages in Garo Hills district shortly.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony at Tura in Garo Hills district yesterday, state Higher and Technical Education Minister Manas Chaudhury said a new university for English and Foreign languages would be set up here shortly to improve the students' proficiency in foreign languages.

Mr Chaudhury said the state government was committed to improve the economic conditions of teachers - the backbone of the society.
