K'taka government approves high-speed rail link to BIA

Bangalore, Jun 17 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today announced the accord given to high-speed rail link between the city and Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) at Devanahally at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore.

The 33-km long rail link would be build under public-private-partnership model, he said after a high level meeting with officials on taking new infrastructural projects in Bangalore city.

The 33-km long rail link would enable air travelers to reach BIA in just 25 minutes from the present one hour, he said.

He said that the government would call for building 115 km long peripheral ring road at a cost of Rs 3000 crore around the city. In the first stage Tumkur Road would be connected to Hosur road with a 65 km ring road which would have ten lanes and service roads.

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) would float a global tender for building the first phase. The project would be taken up under Build-Own-Transfer (BOT) or annuity basis, officials said.
