Goa to celebrate Revolution Day tomorrow
Panaji, Jun 17 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir will lead Goa in paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs on the Revolution Day tomorrow.
It was on this day in 1946 that veteran freedom fighter and socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia gave a clarion call to the Goans to fight the colonial Portuguese regime at a meeting held in Margao.
The Governor on this occasion would honour 41 freedom fighters, some of them posthumously, at an official function at Azad Maidan where he would pay floral tributes at the Martyrs' memorial.
He would be accompanied, among others, by chief minister Digambar Kamat, chief secretary J P Singh and director general of police B S Brar.
Several cabinet colleagues, besides speaker Pratapsinh Rane and Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar, would also pay floral tributes at the memorial.
Similar functions would be organised at Lohia Maidan in Margao and Kranti Maidan in Ponda.
Meanwhile, the Governor, in his message on the eve of the Revolution Day, exhorted the people to ''renew their pledge to not only safeguard the hard earned freedom but also steadfastly work together for greater peace, progress and prosperity of the state in accordance with our national priorities and democratic aspirations''.

glory
and
prosperity
of
the
state
besides
making
it
a
model
state
in
all
respects.''
