Bhopal, Jun 17: Congress activists here staged a demonstration outside the office of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which heads the State Government, charging it with hoarding foodgrains and restricting supply.

A Congress leader said that the shortage of essential commodities has compounded the problems of the common man reeling under spiraling prices.

"The Central Government has declared that 35 kilogram foodgrains will be supplied to each individual. The Supreme Court has also said that below poverty level cardholder should get 35 kilos of foodgrains, but the BJP government is giving only 20 kilograms. No rice, no sugar, no kerosene and on top of that the government has issued a notice that foodgrains will be available only for three days," said Ishwar Singh Chauhan, Congress leader.

"I want to ask the government how is it possible to stock foodgrains. It should be supplied all 30 days of the month. Liquor shops are open 24 hours, but poor will get foodgrain supply for three days only. The State Government has also increased prices of milk," he added.

Latest inflation data revealed that the inflation rose to 8.75 per cent during the week ending May 31, rising from the previous week's 8.24 per cent.

The inflation rate is now at it's highest since February 10, 2001, when it was 8.77 per cent.
