ELCOT to allot lands to IT majors, BPOs

Tiruchirapalli, Jun 17:The state-owned Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), which is establishing an IT Park at suburb Navalpattu in a 147-acre land, is all set for allotting land to the IT majors and BPOs. ELCOT sources said Sutherland Global Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) were expected to start their operations here.

Initially, they would provide land to the 'anchor companies' to ensure that the allotted land was utilised for the purpose. The ELCOT Board has empowered its Managing Director, C Umashankar to execute the process, the sources added.

Plans are afoot to construct buildings in 50,000 square feet space by ELCOT in the first phase. Subsequently, it envisaged construction of two million square feet of builtup space in a 50-acre area in the IT park under a joint venture with a private entity.

They proposed to lay internal roads at a cost of Rs 25 crore for the IT park, which has already been accorded SEZ status, the sources said, and added that they were eagerly looking forward for a 100-feet expressway that connects the IT park with the Tiruchirapalli-Pudukkottai National Highway.
