Bandh in state town peaceful

Nizamabad, Andhra Pradesh, June 17: The bandh, called by the all Opposition parties in protest against the police firing on farmers injuring one agitator yesterday, passed off peacefully in Armoor Town in this district today.

The bandh was successful in Armoor as all commercial establishments and educational institutions remained closed and the state-owned Road Transport Corporation (RTC) suspended its bus services for the day.

Meanwhile, Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) district leaders and workers staged dharna in Nizamabad Town demanding the government provide Rs 1,550 per quintal as the remunerative price for red jowar against Rs 1,200 announced by the government.

Meanwhile, Armoor Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hatiram told newspersons that cases were booked against the farmers who set police vehicles on fire when they were agitating infront of the house of Jowar trader Mahipal Reddy at Armoor yesterday.
