Shillong, Jun 16: Proscribed outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) today denied its involvement in the killing of Khasi Student Union's (KSU) Dawki unit president Phershal Kongwang recently.
The underground outfit, in a statement, said the allegations levelled by some of the surrendered HNLC cadres about the militant organisation's involvement in the killing were false and intended to ''tarnish the image of the organisation.'' Four HNLC militants, who surrendered before the BSF personnel at Panisagar Border Outpost Post in Tripura, alleged that Mr Khongwang was abducted and killed by three HNLC cadres based in Bangladesh.
Police, however, stated they were still investigating the case as the body of the KSU leader was yet to be recovered.
The outfit, however, urged the family members of the slain students union leader and the people ''not to be misled by such false propaganda against the outfit launched by police and some vested interests.''
