High Commissioner lauds MP's development

Bhopal, June 16(UNI) The British High Commissioner has lauded the achievements made by Madhya Pradesh specially in areas of rural livelihood, malnutrition and infant mortality.

High Commissioner in India Sir Richard Stagg, during a courtesy call on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today, said the state's achievement in crucial areas was a model for other states.

Mr Chouhan elaborated the strides made by the state in the last four years in infrastructure development, particularly road, drinking water and electricity, attracting sizeable investment.

Proposals for investment of Rs 216,000 crores had been received so far, he added.

The Chief Minister referred to the closer ties between India and Great Britain in areas of curbing terrorism, poverty alleviation and health and recalled Britain's contribution in welfare programmes for urban poor, rural livelihood project and health. The state was attracting more tourists now, he added.

The Chief Minister presented a replica of the famous Buddhist Stupa at Sanchi near Bhopal as a memento to the High Commissioner, official sources said. Sanchi is a world heritage site.
