Fatehabad, Jun 16: Two persons were washed away in the Ghaggar river after the road adjacent to the bridge on the river on the outskirts of Ratia town in this district eroded this morning.
One Sonu Garg and his son Jeetu Garg were washed away by the swift water currents. Their bodies are yet to be recovered.
Official reports said six other persons were rescued after they fell in the river.
According to the accounts of the eye witnesses the sudden rise in the water level of the Ghaggar due to rains eroded the road adjacent to the bridge, which was under repair.
The contractor in charge of the repair work had diverted the flow of water which led to the erosion of the road.
Four persons riding on two motorcycles and a few others, who were standing near the bridge fell in the river as the road collapsed. Six others -- Manjeet, Jagdeep, Nikka, Pawan, Mangat and Kala -- were rescued by the workers who were repairing the bridge.
