Empee Sugars to set up integrated sugar complex
Chennai, Jun 16 (UNI) Empee Sugars and Chemicals Ltd., a unit of Chennai-headquartered Empee Group, will set up a state-of-the-art integrated sugar complex with a capacity of 5,000 TCD (tonnes crushing per day) at Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu.
Located on a 300-acre land, the Rs 515 crore complex would go on stream by the end of next year, Empee Sugars and Chemicals Ltd.
Joint Managing Director, K Jayachandran said.
The funding would be through a mix of equity and debt.
The capacity of the integrated complex was expandable to 8,000 TCD.
The plant would also house a 50 mw co-generation power plant, which would qualify for carbon emission certificates (carbon credits) and a distillery with a capacity of one lakh litres per day.
He said keeping in tune with futuristic approaches to farming, the company would adopt corporate/contract method apart from conventional methods for cultivation.
Bio-compost would be a byproduct of the distillery, he added.
The integrated complex would manufacture Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) and Ethanol. The company has already commenced nursery cultivation for cane development.
A portion of the power generated would be used for captive consumption to run the sugar and distillery operations. The balance would be exported to the TNEB grid. All the units of the complex were expected to commence operations simultaneously and the manpower requirement for the operation of the complex would be around 500.
