Ahmedabad, Jun 16 (UNI) Gujarat Congress today demanded a CBI probe into the Narmada canal breach incident near Kadi town and charged Chief Minister Narendra Modi's government with criminal negligence that led to the flooding of half-a-dozen villages.
Talking to mediapersons here, AICC secretary P Sudhakar Reddy said the breach in the Narmada canal was a serious issue, but the state government took it very casually. Around Rs 40,000 crore had been spent on Narmada canal project.
There were many complaints of breaches in the canal at many places. Terms of CBI inquiry should include whether the terms of tenders for the project have been observed or not by the contractors. The government has spent a big amount on the project.
It should have been a transparent affair, he said.
Mr Reddy, who visited the canal breach affected areas today, said there are allegations of massive corruption in Narmada Canal project. The government should inquire into these allegations and take action against all responsible persons.
He demanded humanitarian assistance to all affected people without any discrimination.
