{image-Inflaiton rally_16062008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Gaya/Patna, June 16: Youth activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a bicycle rally against mounting inflation here on Sunday. The rally taken out by the youth wing of BJP accused the Central Government of not doing enough to curb inflation. "Inflation during the present UPA Government is at its peak. Former NDA had fully controlled the inflation. But under this regime, the price rise is sucking blood of the common man," said Rajdeo Pandit, secretary of the BJP's youth wing, Gaya.

The farmers' cell of the BJP burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in Patna saying the hike in support price of paddy announced recently was insufficient. "We challenge the Manmohan Singh Government that if the support price of paddy recommended by the agricultural committee is not enforced, if that is not increased to rupees 1000, then the farmers' cell of the BJP will take their agitation to villages and tell the people about the anti-farmer policies of the Central Government, " said Satyendra Narayan Kushwaha, president of BJP's Bihar farmers' cell.

Earlier, Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said that the government has raised the procurement price it pays local rice paddy to farmers for their grain to 850 rupees per 100 kg from 745 rupees last year. He said this was an ad-hoc price fixed by the Central Government after various state governments had given conflicting recommendations on the price to be paid to farmers.
