Bangalore, June 16 (UNI) Public Sector Bharat Electronics Limited will manufacture 1000 Direct To Home (DTH) units which acts as warning system at the time of natural or man made disaster in the country, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair said today.
In a chat with newsmen after delivering valedictory address of the three-day International Conference on Disaster Management here, he said that the DTH unit, which is small in size and can be installed easily and warning signals can be beamed quickly through out the country.
"ISRO will soon be installing receiving station in Bangalore to receive signals from the Geo Satellite for transferring signals to DTH so that Doordarshan can beam the signal even in the middle of their programme. We are also working at beaming map of particular area in support of the warning," Mr Nair added.
He said that natural disaster has become very frequent so as man made disaster and the DTH system of warning comes very handy in alerting the public as well as to speed up rescue operations.
Replying to a question, he said that since the DTH would be a patented by ISRO, one has to purchase from it for installation.
Earlier in his valedictory address he said that the ISRO is also working out at launching Micro Wave imaging satellite so that minute details about floods and other natural disaster warnings can be received. At present we are taking images from Canadian Space Agency.
" During the launch of PSLV C9 recently from Sriharikota we were worried about Cyclone passing through, but with the help of Satellite we came to understand that the cyclone course had changed its tract and we went ahead with the launch. Of course the Cyclone "Nargis" created havoc claiming thousands of lives and rendering thousands others homeless in Maynamar," he added.
