Baripada, Jun 16 (UNI) The nearly 123-year-old Baripada Circle Jail here became a high-tech jail in the state from today to keep a close watch on the activities of the hardcore criminals lodged inside it.
At least four ''close circuit cameras'' were installed, one each in 'high security wards' such as Ward No 4, Ward no 21, main gate and the 'interview room', Senior Superintendent of Circle Jail Sibadas Chand said, The installation of the close circuit cameras will be greatly helpful to ensure security and discipline inside the jail, he said.
The control system of the cameras had been installed inside the Senior Superintendent's room.
The jail with a sanctioned strength of 588 prisoners was now housing as many as 742 inmates (both undertrials and convicts).
The jail would soon have a ''jammer'' so that mobile phones used by the inmate would be inoperative.
The jail was established way back in 1885 by Maharaja late Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo.
