Truck driver arrested for alleged involvement in accident
Mumbai, Jun 15 (UNI) Police today arrested a truck driver for his alleged involvement in an accident at Alibaug in which Matka king Suresh Kalyanji Bhagat was killed along with six others.
Police arrested Parveen Sethi on the basis of a complaint made by Bhagat's family, who are suspecting foul play in the accident, which occurred on Friday, near Alibaug.
It may be recalled that Bhagat had written to the crime branch and Worli police, saying that his life was in danger.
He had also alleged that his ex-wife Jaya Chedda and son Hitesh, along with gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli's henchmen Suhash Rogge and Anil Poojari, were conspiring to kill him to grab his property.
Jaya and Hitesh are running the Kalyan matka operation from Vapi in Gujarat.
Last Friday, a truck rammed into a Scorpio jeep in which Bhagat, two advocates and his three bodyguards were travelling. They were returning after attending a hearing in Alibaug court. All of them died in the accident. The jeep driver later succumbed to injuries in Sion hospital.
Bhagat was facing trial in a narcotics case of 1998.
When contacted, Deputy Inspector General of police Pratap Digavkar of Konkan range said they have arrested the truck driver but refused to divulge any more details about the case.
The city police will also interrogate the truck driver once the Alibaug police finishes all the formalities.
Mumbai Crime branch officials visited the accident spot yesterday to find further leads in the case.
