Seven Indian sailors for International Regatta

Chennai, Jun 15 (UNI) Seven sailors, including five boys and two girls, will represent India in a record field of 13 countries, in the 16th Al Bareh International Regatta Championship to be held in Bahrain from June 17 to 21.

According to a press release from the Yatching Association of India and Tamil Nadu Sailing Association here, six of the sailors would be from Tamil Nadu, including Varun Thakkar, Hussain Bhavnagarvala, Raufus Patrick, Praveen Prabhakar, Niveditha Ravivarman and Shweta Sadanandan. One sailor Aman Vyas would be from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

The Indian squad, picked after the recently concluded Optmist Coastal Nationals held here recently, was put through a coaching camp under the Optimist National coach Ninad Mavekar.

Algeria, Bahrain Egypt, Greece, India, Kuwait, Libya, Pakistan, Qatar, Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey and United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the countries in fray in the prestigious competition.
