Kathmandu, June 15 : The residents of thirteen Village Development Committee (VDCs) of Nawalparasi district, Nepal, who have been staging a sit-in protest, have threatened to demolish the Gandak Dam.

The dam has been constructed by India over the Gandak river along the Indo-Nepal border.

Every year thousands of acres of land in Nepal, in the vicinity of the dam, are inundated during monsoons compelling the residents in the area to move upward towards higher altitude to save their lives.

The residents had recently organized a press meet right at the Dam inviting media personals from both India and Nepal.

The protestors have been demanding regular cleaning of the siphons and repair damaged parts of the dam, which are causing the water blockage. "If our demands are not met within few days, we will destroy the dam itself", the protestors threatened.
