New Delhi, Jun 15: Breaking a record of 108 years, monsoon today hit the national capital almost a fortnight ahead of the schedule. People in the National Capital Region woke up to a cool Sunday with rains lashing the region since 0600 hrs today.The rains brought the much-needed respite from the sultry weather prevailing for the past one week. The minimum temperature recorded on Sunday morning was 27.5 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal, the Met department said. The maximum temperature today will hover around 33 degree, four degrees below normal. The Met office recorded a rainfall of 0.8 mm till 1230 hrs.
The Weatherman described it as pre-monsoon showers and forecast a generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rains or thunderstorm in the coming days.
Delhi had been receiving rains for the past few days. But today's showers have been described as the first pre-monsoon rain.
The Met office had predicted an early onset of monsoon in Delhi this year.
