Mass suicide threat by family in Haryana

Kurukshetra, Jun 15 (UNI) The family members of the late Mam Chand Garg of Pehowa have threatened to commit mass suicide before the Pehowa police station if the promised CBI inquiry did not start by July one.

The bodies of Man Chand Garg and eight of his family members were fished out of the Bhakra canal on March 31. The family members had disappeared in mid-March after leaving a note which mentioned the names of the people responsible for their suicide.

Angoori Devi and Sham Lal Garg, mother and younger brother respectively of the deceased have now threatened to commit suicide alongwith the remaining members the family if the promised CBI inquiry was not initiated immediately.

Talking to the mediapersons at Murtazapur, their native village today, Sham Lal Garg and his mother stated that they had waited for three months in vain.

''We do not expect any justice from Haryana police and trust only CBI,'' he added. .

''Why not a CBI inquiry in a mass suicide case of nine family members,'' he asked while referring to the inquiry intiated by the premier investigating agency in the Arushi murder case Mam Chand, along with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and children had plunged into the Bhakra canal in his car. The mass suicide was attributed to indebtedness.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Pehowa MLA and agriculture minister H S Chattha and MP Kurukshetra, Navin Jindal had assured the agitated people of the area of a CBI inquiry into the sordid incident within 15 days. However, the state government has passed no order to initiate an inquiry by the central agency.
