HPF demandes increase in remuneration
Shillong, Jun 15 (UNI) The Hynniewytrep People's Federation (HPF) has urged the Meghalaya government to enhance the remuneration of the skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labourers.
In a memorandum to state Minister-in-charge of Labour E C Bamon, the federation said the remuneration of the labourers engaged as casual employees in various government and semi-government departments should be increased.
The HPF stated in the memorandum that the wages paid to the casual labourers were too less by any standards as the prices of all the essential commodities were skyrocketing.
The federation asked the state Labour department to find a solution as early as possible for the benefit of all the casual workers considering the steep hike in prices of essential commodities.
The organisation pointed out that daily wages were being paid to three categories of workers according to the Wages Act formulated during the late 1980s at a rate of Rs 85 per day for the skilled, Rs 75 per day for semi-skilled and Rs 70 per day for unskilled labourers.
