Honour killing: accused arrested by police
Patiala, Jun 15 (UNI) Police today arrested Sarabjit Singh who had killed his sister and brother-in-law yesterday at Banur in this district.
Police had registered a case of murder against Sarabjit and others at the Banur police station.
Police sources said Sarabjit himself surrendered before the police. He confessed to his crime and told police that somebody of his village informed him that his sister was pregnant.
The information had enraged him and so he committed the crime, he told the police during questioning.
While the boy, Suresh Kumar, died on the spot, his wife Sulwinder succumbed to her injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Chandigarh. The two were murdered as they belonged to different castes and after falling in love they married despite objections from their parents.
Salwinder Kaur, a Dalit from Gajjukhera village fell in love with Suresh Kumar, a khatri boy, of the same village two years back.
Both were axed to death by the girl's brother, Sarabjit Singh.
Though the marriage of both had led to tension in the village initially, but later on the boy's parents accepted the girl.
