Kohima, Jun 15: The Kohima district administration, with the help of police and Assam Rifles, has taken up fresh flushout operations in and around Kohima town following the killing of two people on Friday by unidentified gunmen.
A release issued by the PRO of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (AR) (IGAR-North) said the operations continued till evening yesterday in various places of Kohima town, including High School area, Bill Graham Road, Kohima village, New NST area Agri, Forest and Electrical colonies.
Over 250 officials and security forces personnel from AR, District Executive Force, Nagaland Armed Police, district administration, police, Gaon Burahs and Dobhasis participated in the flush out operations.
During the operations, a bolt-action .303 rifle, 40 live cartridges of AK-47, five rounds of nine mm pistol, besides incriminating documents and photographs of cadres were recovered.
In the Electrical Colony, a house owner confirmed that the underground cadres had taken shelter in his house against his wishes last week but vacated sensing the flush-out operations, the release said.
Many hotels, reportedly occupied by the armed underground cadres, were also raided in the town and the hotel managers were warned that strict action would be taken if they sheltered the cadres again.
The administration also warned all sympathisers of the militants that stern measures would be taken if they sheltered any cadre of any faction.
High alert has been sounded among all the intelligence networks in AR, police and other agencies to keep strict vigil on the movement of the underground cadres and their re-entry into the town and security check points had been increased all over the town areas to seal the entry of any unwanted elements disturbing the public tranquility, the release added.
