Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, June 15 (UNI) Condemning communal forces for stalling the prestigious Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP) citing imaginary reasons, the maiden DMK Women's Wing Conference today urged the Centre to implement the project.
A resolution adopted at the conference in this regard recalled Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi's birthday wish to implement the project even by renaming it as 'Sethu Ram.' It said the Centre should understand the real sentiments of the Chief Minister's birthday wish and take steps to implement it.
The resolution said the project envisaged by Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C N Annadurai and the 150 year-old-dream of the Tamils would usher in economic development of the Southern States.
''But some communal forces citing imaginary reasons in the name of religion are trying to hamper the implementation of the project which needs to be condemned,'' it added.
Pointing out the project was launched in 2004 by the Centre, the resolution said works were on for the last two years under the project which would pave way for state's economic development and offer thousands of jobs to youth.
Another resolution thanked Mr Karunanidhi and Local Administration Minister M K Stalin for taking up the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Project and the Metro Rail Project.It also thanked the JBIC for agreeing to fund the two projects.
