Port Blair, Jun 15 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration was taking all possible steps to ensure that the electoral rolls for this union territory were made up-to-date and error-free, an official statement said here today.
The administration was carrying out this drive in pursuance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
During last election, many political parties in Andaman had raised objections over some mistakes found in the electoral roll of these far-flung islands.
In view of this, the A&N Administration urged the electors and other interested persons to cooperate with the officials concerned to accomplish the task.
The electoral rolls in respect of the A&N Parliamentary Constituency which were being revised with January 1, 2008 as the qualifying date, would be published on June 30.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of A&N Islands informed that a good number of electors have failed to attend the hearings, despite instructions to them in this regard.
Appropriate action was also being initiated for deletion of multiple entries and duplicate names on receipt of objections, the release said.
