Shillong, June 14: The two-day meeting of the Northeastern Zonal Programme Coordination Committee for All India Radio (AIR) stations has stressed the need for improvement of broadcast quality in the far-flung areas of the region by setting up more short-wave and FM transmitters.

Official sources said here today that the two day meeting, which concluded yesterday, also discussed the programme content and expansion of broadcasting infrastructure in the entire NE region.

It also decided to initiate a year-long celebration from next month on the occasion of completion of 60 years of broadcasting by the AIR in the region.

The AIR had started its broadcast from Shillong and Guwahati stations on July 1, 1948.
