Puducherry, Jun 14 (UNI) The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has postponed its 'victory procession' and public meeting, slated to be held here tomorrow, to June 26.
According to the party sources, a decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the senior party leaders at party founder-leader S Ramadoss' Thailavaram gardens last night.
Though the party sources said the procession and public meeting was postponed due to some 'unavoidable circumstances', it was learnt that the decision was influenced by the DMK's women's wing conference in adjoining Cuddalore.
If the DMK took a decision to snap ties with the PMK at the Cuddalore conference, the PMK cadres would react when DMK partymen return via Puducherry after the conference. In the event of the PMK, procession also being taken out tomorow, leading to law and order problems.
Moreover, it would give a tough time to the Puducherry police to arrange security for both the DMK cadres returning from Cuddalore the PMK programme.
The PMK had earlier announced the 'victory procession and public meeting' to celebrate its successful effort in converting JIPMER here into an autonomous institution. Dr Ramadoss was scheduled to address the public meeting.
