Farmer killed in police firing was a BJP worker: Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, Jun 14 (UNI) Lashing out at the BJP for describing the farmers' agitation against shortage of fertilisers as ''politically motivated,'' JD (S) Leader H D Kumaraswamy today claimed the farmer who was killed in the recent police firing in Haveri was a worker of the saffron party.
Speaking at an 'Introspection Meeting', organised by the party in the wake of its disappointing performance in the recent Assembly elections, Mr Kumaraswamy said, ''Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa alleged the agitation is a political conspiracy against the BJP.
''But does he know the firing victim was a BJP worker? The JD(S) never wants to extract political mileage out of farmers' problems.
But I am revealing this to expose the ulterior motives of the BJP.'' The situation in Dharwad, where farmers protested violently a few days before the Haveri incident, was much more serious. But fortunately no farmer had to give up his life, he added.
The Former Chief Minister alleged the BJP Government was ''inept'' in handling the situation.
Mr Yeddyurappa ''ignored'' the farmers' interests while he spent all the time in ''luring'' the Independents to form the government and appease the leaders in Delhi.
''The Chief Minister went to Delhi to appease the Central leaders, while farmers in the state took to the streets due to non-availability of farm inputs.
''He did not have the time to speak to the Fertiliser Minister during his first visit (to Delhi). Then he started blaming the Centre for shortage,'' he alleged.
