Port Blair, Jun 14 (UNI) The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued heavy rainfall warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
''Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands till noon tomorrow,'' an IMD release issued here stated.
The release also stated that strong southwest winds with speed ranging between 45-55 kmph and rough to very rough seas were likely along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast.
Earlier, a squall was reported by the pilot balloon observatory of Port Blair yesterday, having highest gust of 90 km per hour at 1109 hours IST from southwest direction which lasted for two minutes and 3.2 mm rainfall was recorded during this interval.
''The southwest monsoons are strong over the Andaman Sea.
one or two spells of rain may be heavy,'' the Met department release added.
