Shillong, Jun 13: The War Jaintia Conference (WJC) has urged the state government to allow the Meghalaya State Electricity Board (MeSEB) to execute the two new proposed power promects in the Jaintia Hills district.

In a memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Donkupar Roy, the WJC said, ''It may not be possible to scrap the power deals inked during the regime of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) in connection with the Myntdu Leshka State II and the Umngot hydro electric projects, which were among the six projects handed over to private companies.'' Earlier, the MDA government, in a deal, had entrusted the execution and operation of the projects through joint venture system to private companies.

''The WJC is confident that the MeSEB has the required expertise to execute any big or mega power projects in the state and responsibility for the two projects in the district be given to the board,'' the memorandum demanded.
