UPA takes steps to control price hike: FM
Sivaganga, Jun 13 (UNI) The UPA government at the Centre is taking all steps to control the spiraling price of essential commodities, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.
Inaugurating the 999th branch of the Corporation Bank and a biometric ATM here, he said the Saudi Arabian government had convened a conference to discuss rising crude oil prices. India was also invited to attend the conference, where a solution could be reached, he hoped.
As many as 12 lakh students received educational loans to the tune of Rs 14,000 crore during the last four years, he added.
Presiding over the function, B Sambamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director, Corporation Bank, said the bank was planning to open 17 branches in Tamil Nadu shortly.
