Chattarpur (Madhya Pradesh), June 13 : The prolonged drought-like situation prevailing in Chhattarpur District of Madhya Pradesh has also affected the flora and fauna.
Thousands of birds and animals' lives have been threatened due to the prevailing water scarcity in this region. Many birds have even migrated to other places for food and water.
But many local residents are playing Samartians' role to arrange water for birds and animals despite the fact that the families in the Bundelhkhand region of Madhya Pradesh have been badly affected due to water scarcity following four years' of drought like situation here.
"For almost a month we placed water containers and food for them in around the Chhattarpur city. And today we have placed 120 such containers," said Pawan Mishra, Social Worker, Chhattarpur.
Many birds and animals today can be sighted drinking water form these containers.
"We all know that from the past four years there has been a terrible drought-like condition in Bundelkhand and all our ponds of the medieval era are out of water. About 500 ponds are left without a single drop of water. And the animals and the birds are the worst victims of this. This situation has led to their deaths and migration," said Pawan Mishra, a social worker in Chhattarpur.
The volutary efforts for birds and animals have also been appreciated by many quarters.
"This is a very good thing. We have with us around five to six NGOs which are working to provide water to the birds and animals which is really appreciable. Organisations like Gayatri Parivar, Gauri Vaishya Samaj, Sarva Brahman Samaj, Hindu Utsav Samiti have been working with us for the cause," said Dr. Ranjit Singh, the Deputy Superintendent at the Chhattarpur Veterinary Hospital.
