Kuala Lumpur, June 13 :Industrialist K. Kalaichelvan has urged the Malaysian Hindu Sangam (MHS) to help in the registration of temples throughout the country to prevent the illegal ones from being demolished.

After attending the consecration ceremony of 30-year-old Sri Maha Thurkai Amman temple in Kapar on Wednesday, he said that many old temples were not registered while others were built on private land, posing problems when the owners wanted their land back.

Kalaichelvan said that unregistered temple committees should approach MHS for registeration of temples and also to pre-empt any action by the authorities.

He said that after registration, temples could also approach State Government for grants for the maintenance for the temples and the organisation of religious activities.

The elected parliamentarians and state assemblymen should cooperate with MHS to ensure registration of all temples, Makkal Osai reported.
