Chennai, Jun 13 (UNI) Fans of Kollywood and Indian cinema's legendary actor Kamal Hassan went head over heels in joy today, as his latest film ''Dasaavatharam'' finally hit the screens following a 'world wide' release, after being in the making for a little over two years.
Kamal fans celebrated the event at all the 300 theatres in the state showing the film. It also set another record by coming out with 1000 prints for the first time in Tamil cinema. The fans showed traditional 'aarti' to huge cut outs and posters depicting the ten roles he plays in the film. At some theatres the fans anointed with milk to cut outs of the actor.
The black market rate for tickets was as high as Rs 150 to Rs 200 per ticket in some theatres, according to police sources.
The celebrations were in spite of the appeal by Kamal Hassan to his fans associations, functioning as social service clubs at his behest, not to indulge in such acts and enjoy the film quietly.
While the box office response to the film is still awaited according to the film's PRO, the advance booking has been registered till May 23 in Chennai city.
The new release comes two years after Kamal's last action flick ''Vettayadu Vilayadu''. In 'Dasaavatharam' Kamal also appears as US President George Bush, who is also to be shown the film at a convenient date in the White House.
The film also stars Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat and Hasin and veteran actress Jayaprada. The special affects are by Hollywood's Brian Jennings of 'Exorcist' fame.
The film was special for Kamal's innumerable fans as the versatile artiste essays a world record number of ten roles emulating the previous best of nine by late Sivaji Ganesan in a 1960s film 'Navarathri' and eight by Hollywood actor Sir Alec Guinness in a film in the late 40s.
Kamal is hailed as 'ulaganayakan'(universal actor) by his fans.
