Etawah/Lucknow, Jun 13 (UNI) After a three month long combing operation, Uttar Pradesh police today shot dead dacoit Deep Chand alias Nadia, prime accused in the killing of a five member dalit family in Aminabad village in March, in the jungles of Etawah.
Police sources said dacoit Nadia along with his another accomplice Sonbeer alias Lokharia were killed in an encounter with the police in the jungles of Takrupara near the banks of river Yamuna.
An automatic rifle and several rounds of cartridges were recovered from the possession of the deceased dacoits. More than 50 criminal cases, including that of murder and kidnapping were registered against the Nadia dacoit gang.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had ordered elimination of this gang after their involvement in the killing of five members of a Dalit family in Aminabad village in Etawah on the night of March 12 last.
A Lot of political heat was generated in the killing of the Dalit family with BSP and Congress leaders visited the village to console the family members. Only three minor girl of the family had survived the attack.
Ms Mayawati herself visited the village on March 14 while Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi also paid a similar visit in the village on the next day of the incident.
Sources said the whereabout of the Nadia gang was intercepted two days back when the gang released an abducted teenage girl kidnapped from Naiaputia village in the district on May 13.
The girl, Vinita Jatav, was abducted when she was going to attend a marriage ceremony of her relative in that village.
The gang was also involved in killing a four-year-old boy from Kanpur two years back, after abducting him a day after Deepawali festival.
