Vijayawada, Jun 13: Communist Party of India (Marxist) cadres today staged a 'mahadharna' in front of the civil supplies department office, demanding distribution of white ration cards to all eligible persons.
State CPI(M) committee member Ch Baburao and city unit Secretary R Raghu, addressing the gathering, alleged that the Congress Government in the State was cheating the people regarding issuance of white ration cards.
They demanded that the Government implement its announcement of increasing the income limit to up to Rs 75,000 for issuing white card holders.
Their demands also included distribution of 35 kg rice to the poor by issuing Antyodaya Annayojana cards, issuing coupons for four litres of kerosene for single gas cylinder holder and eight litres to cylinderless families. Distribution of rice and other ration items should be extended up to 27th of every month instead of 15th and permanent DPL centres should be set up to issue new ration cards.
The agitators submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Civil Supplies Officer, who assured to set up a permanent DPL centre at the Sub-Collector's office.
