Cong for thorough probe into attack on Saamna's office
New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) Condemning the attack on the office of Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamna' as an ''attack against democracy'', the Congress today demanded a thorough probe to find out whether Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane's supporters or some impersonators were involved in it.
''An attack on the office of a newspaper or a news channel is against democracy, and we condemn it,'' Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed told reporters.
''But it is a matter of inquiry, to find out who were responsible for it..., whether the attackers were Congress activists or somebody impersonating them,'' he added.
Indicating that it could be some impersonators, Dr Ahmed said kurta- pyjamas and caps (attire of a Congress activist) besides false beards were recovered from the houses of Shiv Sena corporators during the Mumbai riots.
Last night, a group of 25 persons, allegedly owing allegiance to Mr Rane, threw stones at the Saamna office after the paper carried a front-paged photograph of the Minister dressed as a 'Maharashtrian bride'.
