Businessman killed during police raid
New Delhi, Jun 13 (UNI) A businessman was allegedly killed after being thrashed by the police, who went to his residence to execute a non-bailable warrant in Tilak Nagar area of west Delhi.
Even as the family alleged that Nirmal Singh died late last night after being thrashed by the police team which had come to arrest him, police denied any wrong doing saying Singh was found lying on the floor of his bathroom and died due to natural reasons.
Even preliminary findings in the MLC have revealed that there were no head or serious injuries, said a senior police official.
''After the police team went to his house to execute the NBC, Nirmal Singh locked himself in the bathroom even as his family engaged them in a verbal duel. When the latchet of the bathroom was broken, Singh was found lying on the ground after which he was taken to Guru Govind Singh hospital where he was declared brought dead.'' On the other hand the family alleged that the police team demanded Rs one lakh and when refused they thrashed Singh badly resulting in his death.
The official also said postmortem report was awaited and anyone found guilty would not be spared, while adding that the death of Singh happened due to natural causes.
The genesis of the case emanates from a cheque of Rs 28,000, given by Nirmal Singh to a Subzi Mandi businessman Ashok Khandelwal, which bounced.
Khandelwal got a case registered against Singh and the local Tis Hazari court issued a non-bailable warrant against Singh.
The police last night went to carry out the NBW, in the company of Khandelwal, when the incident took place.
