BJP demands MSP of Rs 1,000 for paddy
Raipur, Jun 13 (UNI) Claiming that the ruling BJP has been demanding minimum support price of at least Rs 1000 per quintal for paddy for a long time, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today disapproved the MSP of Rs 850 announced by the Centre yesterday.
''Even MSP of Rs 1000 was not sufficient as the input cost was spiralling and the Centre was incapable of checking inflation'', he told reporters here.
To support his claim that the BJP was demanding higher price for paddy for a long time, Dr Singh also furnished copies of letters sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Food Minister Sharad Pawar in this regard.
He described as baseless reports that the BJP favoured MSP of Rs 745 per quintal of paddy.
