Rohtak, Haryana, Jun 11: Both the absconding policemen, accused of rape and harrassment of one Sarita, who committed suicide on June 9 inside the headquarters of Haryana DGP, surrendered before the police here tonight. Accused policemen, head constable Balraj and constable Silak Raj surrendered before the Superintendent of Police (state crime branch) Rajindar Kumar at around 2200 hrs.

Both the accused had been booked under section 376 B of IPC in Rohtak and under section 305 in Panchkula and in view of the gravity of these charges they had been dismissed from service. Sarita, 26, wife of Rohtak resident Subhash, reached the DGP's office on Monday along with her two sons and declared that in protest against the police inaction and harrassment, she had consumed celphos tablets.

The police personnel present at the time, rushed her to a nearby government general hospital. She was referred to PGI, Chandigarh due to her serious condition, where she died after some time.

The deceased handed over a complaint earlier in which she had alleged that no action had been taken against the accused policemen who had allegedly raped her on April 10 after calling her to police station in connection with her husband's arrest in a theft case.

Her complaint on the matter was registered only on May 31 after she approached the ADGP, law and order on May 29.
