Nashik, Jun 12 (UNI) Nashik Police Commissioner Himanshu Roy has ordered an inquiry against six police personnel of Ambad police station in a robbery of valuables worth Rs 25 lakh on May 15.

According to sources, Mr Roy had given orders of inquiry against Senior PI Babasaheb Budhwat and 6 other policemen -- Havildar Raju Nagarkar, Constable Taty Wagh, Kailas Thete, Mali and Jadhav, all from Ambad Police Station.

The inquiry has been handed over to the local Crime Branch as prima facie these officials seemed to be involved in the matter.

On May 15, a parcel of Satish Takle, a city-based jeweller, was stolen from a truck at Vilholi Naka under jurisdiction of Ambad Police Station. The parcel, sent by Shah Courier Service, contained valuables such as gold, diamonds and some ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh.

Following this, Mr Takle requested PI Budhwat to inquire into the matter without registering a case. The police swung into action and took into custody five persons and also seized the stolen goods.

However, the police kept the five persons at a private place for some days and on May 28, registered a case in the matter. But in it, the police showed that only goods worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen and seized, while hiding the remaining valuables.

After the matter came to light, the concerned jeweller approached Mr Roy. Following this, the Commissioner ordered the inquiry in the matter yesterday.
