Washington, Jun 12: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, currently on a US visit, held a series of discussions with senior US officials, including Treasury Secretary Henry M Paulson, on issues related to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In addition to Doha Development Agenda, their discussions also touched other issues of mutual interest in bilateral relations including a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), according to an Indian Embassy press release here last night. Second round of exploratory discussions on BIT are being held here from June 11 to 13. Mr Kamal Nath also met Senator Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. They discussed the current status of the Doha Round negotiations and recent positive developments in bilateral commercial and economic relations.
The Indian minister also called on US Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer and Commerce Secretary Carlos M Gutierrez.
He had a brief meeting with US Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Susan C Schwab. They would meet again later in the day today for detailed discussions on the Doha Development Agenda.
Mr Kamal Nath will also participate in a discussion on 'India in the 21st century: A partner in free-market democracy' at the US-India Global Partnership Summit which US-India Business Council is organising to mark its 33rd anniversary.
Gutierrez and USTR Ambassador Susan C Schwab were among the other keynote speakers at the event.
