Chandigarh, Jun 12: The Haryana Development and Panchayat Department will give cash awards to the panchayats doing outstanding work in the field of sanitation in their areas under the state Incentive Scheme on Sanitation.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the department said that under the scheme the award will be given to those panchayats which had taken steps to halt defecating in the open by getting constructed individual toilets in all the houses, schools and anganbadis and had also ensured their proper maintenance. While deciding the awards the department will also look into arrangements made by panchayats for the disposal of solid wastes, for drainage and drinking water in the village.
The payment of electricity bills by all the families in the village would also be looked into while deciding the award.
Giving details of the cash prizes to be given under the scheme, the spokesman said that panchayats standing first at division level would be given a cash prize of Rs two lakh while Rs five lakh would be given to the panchayats getting first position at district level. Similarly, panchayats securing first, second and third position at state level would be given cash prizes of Rs 20 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively.
